Information for students who registered an old variants of this course

"Del 1" is a course on vector analysis (which used to be a separate course in the past)

"Del 2" is a course on partial differential equuations. The chapters on Green's functions and variational calculus which used to be part in old version of the course are now moved to the "tillägskurs SI1142".

1) Students registered for "5A1306, Del 2": You can follow the course "SI1140, Del2" including the exams. From this exam you can only get the marks "3" and "4". You are welcome to follow the course now during spring, earn bonus points etc. If you earn "A-C" in the written exam (according to the new marking system) you will get a "4", and "Fx-D" will give a "3". If you get a "A-B" in the "SI1140, Del2" exam but want a better mark you also need to do an exam on the chapters "Green's functions" and "Variational calculus". You can do that either by doing the exam in SI1142 (for this please mark clearly on the SI1142 exam that you do the exam for earning a better mark and for what course number!) or by by doing an oral exam (for this please send email to langmann"at"kth.se with subject "oral exam FYSMAT" and make an appointment). To get a 5 you should get at least have one "B" and one "C" in the exams for "SI1140, Del 2" and "SI1142", or have a "B" in the written exam for "SI1140, Del 2" and do a convincing oral exam.

2) Students registered for "5A1305" or "5A1301": This couse has the following requirements

(i) PDE exam (5p), (ii) Obligatory homework problem (1p), (iii) Exam on tensor calculus (1.5p).

(i) PDE exam: You can follow the course "SI1140, Del2" including the exams. From this exam you can get at best the mark "4". You are welcome to follow the course now during spring, earn bonus points etc. If you earn "A-C" in the written exam (according to the new marking system) you will get a "4", and "Fx-D" will give a "3". If you get a "A-B" in the "SI1140, Del2" exam but want a better mark you also need to do an exam on the chapters "Green's functions" and "Variational calculus". You can do that either by doing the exam in SI1142 (for this please mark clearly on the SI1142 exam that you do the exam for earning a better mark and for what course number!) or by by doing an oral exam (for this please send email to langmann"at"kth.se with subject "oral exam FYSMAT" and make an appointment). To get a "5" you should get at least one "B" and one "C" in the exams for "SI1140, Del 2" and "SI1142", or have a "B" in the written exam for "SI1140, Del 2" and do a convincing oral exam.

(ii) and (iii): In addition you should also do the obligatory homework problem of the course SI1142 (1p) and the tensor course SI1130 (1.5). The total of this course is 7.5p. For (ii) and (iii) the possible marks are "U" and "G".

3) Students who are not registered for any of the courses above and did not do a vector course yet should register SI1140 and do both parts ("Del 1" in autumn and "Del 2" in spring).

4) Students who passed some vector course and should register 5A1305 should register and follow SI1141

(6p) (which includes "SI1140, Del2" but has in addition one obligatory homework problem worth 1p) and SI1130 (1.5). Those who registered an old variant of the vector course which included tensors need not do SI1130.
